Sydney gears up for Christmas

Tim Editor, 22/10/2026

“With festive street fairs and concerts, choirs and the epic tree in Martin Place, the elves at the City of Sydney are busy preparing a Christmas to remember,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore said.

“These free events are our gift to city residents and visitors, and I encourage everyone to come along, join the festivities and experience the magic of Christmas in Sydney.”

Highlights for 2026 include:

Christmas street fairs

Bring your friends and family for food, music, performances, games and a visit from Santa.

Glebe – Glebe Point Road – Saturday 28 November, 12pm to 8pm

Potts Point – Macleay Street and Darlinghurst Road – Saturday 5 December, 12pm to 8pm

Surry Hills – Crown Street – Saturday 12 December, 12pm to 10pm

Christmas concerts

Dust off your reindeer ears, grab a picnic rug and come ready to sing, dance and play at our free Christmas concerts.

Rosebery – Turruwul Park – Sunday 29 November, 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Pyrmont – Pirrama Park – Sunday 6 December, 5:30pm to 8:30pm

Martin Place Christmas tree

The centrepiece of Christmas in Sydney is the Martin Place tree.

Follow Santa’s sleigh ride from Customs House to Martin Place ahead of the official lighting of the tree on Thursday 26 November.

The tree will then feature a sound and light show every evening until Tuesday 5 January.

Choirs in the City

Keep your ear out for your favourite Christmas classics as choirs sing under the Martin Place Christmas tree 6pm to 8pm from 1 to 21 December.

For the first time, some of Sydney’s most talented choirs will sing at Christmas trees in neighbourhoods around the inner city on Wednesday 23 December from 6pm to 8pm.

Christmas markets and Santa photos

Martin Place will host markets from 11am to 9:15pm on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 November and then every Wednesday to Saturday right up until Christmas Eve.

Santa’s house will be nearby again from Friday 27 November, ready for families, friends and pets to snap their Christmas photo. The City of Sydney’s official Christmas charity partner is Variety – the Children’s Charity NSW/ACT– empowering children who are sick, experiencing disadvantage or living with a disability to live without limits.Find out more about the City of Sydney’s Christmas program at sydneychristmas.com.au.
