STEPS Garden Centre invites kids to creative school holiday workshops

STEPS Garden Centre invites kids to creative school holiday workshops

Tim Editor, 07/01/2026

Families looking for fun and meaningful school holiday activities are invited to STEPS Garden Centre in Caloundra, where two hands-on workshops are set to spark creativity and a love for gardening in young minds.

The popular Fairy Garden Workshop returns on Wednesday 14 January, inviting children to design their own miniature magical world using plants, decorative rocks, and a fairy friend to take home. The Pots and Paints Workshop offers two sessions, on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 January, where kids can paint their own terracotta pot, plant something special, and learn how to care for it.

CEO of STEPS Social Business Stephanie Patey said that the workshops are a great way for kids to connect with nature and explore gardening as an enriching hobby while giving them something engaging to do in the school holidays.

“Each child will walk away with their own potted plant, and we teach them how to nurture it to help it grow and stay healthy,” Ms Patey said.

“It’s amazing to see them explore their creative side and decorate their own pots and fairy gardens. We supply expert guidance and everything they use, so they only need to bring their imagination.”

Parents can stay with their children or relax with a coffee at the on-site STEPS Café on George during the workshop. STEPS Garden Centre and STEPS Café on George are both proudly not-for-profit, with every dollar earned funding learning opportunities for young people living with a disability and autism at STEPS Pathways College.

Held at STEPS Garden Centre in Caloundra, each session includes all materials, including plants, soil, pots, paints and ornaments. Both workshops are suitable for children aged 4-12; any younger children must be supervised by a parent at all times. Limited spots are available and early bookings are encouraged.
