AUSTRALIA WANTS TO SWITCH OFF THE ALGORITHM. PVT.SPACE NEVER TURNED ONE ON.

AUSTRALIA WANTS TO SWITCH OFF THE ALGORITHM. PVT.SPACE NEVER TURNED ONE ON.

Tim Editor, 09/09/2026

As Canberra moves to hand users’ control over their social feeds, privacy-first platform Pvt.Space says the real fix isn’t a switch — it’s a platform that never needed one.

CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND  |  9 SEPTEMBER 2026  |  FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Albanese Government’s proposed “My Feed, My Way” laws would let Australians opt out of algorithmic recommendations and see a feed built from the accounts they actually follow.

Pvt.Space thinks that’s a step in the right direction — and about a decade late.

Because the honest question isn’t “should users get an off switch.” It’s why anyone ever agreed to hand a feed over to an algorithm in the first place.

Pvt.Space was built on the opposite premise. No engagement algorithm. No advertising. No feed engineered to keep you scrolling. Members decide who they follow, what they publish, and who sees it — by default, not by opt-out.

The Feed Was Never the Real Problem

Recommendation algorithms didn’t appear by accident. They exist because attention is the product being sold. The longer a user scrolls, the more ad inventory a platform can serve — so the system is built to surface whatever keeps a thumb moving, regardless of whether the user asked for it.

“We didn’t wait for a government to tell us an algorithm shouldn’t run our platform,” said Tim Gallagher, Founder of Pvt.Space. “If you follow someone, you see what they post. That’s it. No algorithm gets to decide it knows better than you what belongs in your own feed — that’s not a feature, that’s surveillance with better branding.”

No Ads Means Nothing To Manipulate You For

Pvt.Space runs without advertising, which changes what the platform is even incentivized to do. There’s no reason to track a three-second pause on a video, no need to manufacture recommended content to create more ad slots, and no reason to convert every tap into a profile for advertisers.

On Pvt.Space, you’re a member. Not inventory.

Safety And Censorship Are Not The Same Debate

Australia’s proposal has reopened a familiar tension — where does protecting users end, and where does controlling lawful speech begin?

Pvt.Space treats these as separate questions. Platforms have real obligations around illegal content, exploitation, and genuine threats. But giving people control over their own feed is not the same as deciding which lawful opinions they’re allowed to encounter. Choice isn’t censorship — it’s just what happens when you give adults the tools to decide for themselves what enters their own space.

A Private Space Is The Default, Not An Upgrade

Members publish Posts and Articles, build Channels, message privately, and share media — public or private, their call. Privacy tools go further: restricted audiences, self-destructing content, and Privacy Plus for members who want to step back from the wider platform entirely.

Not everything needs to be public.

Not everything needs to last forever.

And not everything you do needs to become a data point for someone else’s ad model.

One Platform, No Old Business Model

Pvt.Space combines social networking, private messaging, publishing, Channels, and privacy in a single platform — with monetization entirely optional. Content published once is readable across 28 languages, so members reach audiences across borders without building separate accounts.

Members who want to earn can switch on subscriptions, Tips, paid content, and other built-in tools. Members who don’t, don’t have to. There’s no split between “creator” and “user” — everyone on Pvt.Space is a Member.

The Internet Doesn’t Need A Better Algorithm

Australia’s debate is framed around whether users should be allowed to turn recommendation systems off. Pvt.Space is asking something further upstream: what if platforms simply stopped treating algorithmic manipulation and surveillance advertising as the price of admission for connecting people?

That platform already exists. We built it.

The future of social media isn’t another algorithm with better manners. It’s private. It doesn’t track your every move to build a profile it can sell. It doesn’t bombard you with advertising. It isn’t engineered to be addictive. That future isn’t coming — it’s already live, and it’s called Pvt.Space.

No ads.

No algorithm deciding what you see.

Privacy by default.

Monetization when you want it.

Your content. Your audience. Your choice.

WELCOME TO PVT.SPACEShare what you want. With who you want.
